For short story writers
You wrote it to be felt. Let it be heard.
A short story read aloud reaches people a page can't: on walks, in the dark, ears-first. Narrate your story, embed the read-along player on your blog, and hand readers a listening experience instead of a wall of text.

Short fiction was always meant for the ear.
Stories were spoken before they were written, and narrated short fiction thrives today wherever it appears. But recording your own audio means gear, takes, and editing, so most stories never get a voice. Now the distance between 'posted' and 'listenable' is a few minutes.
From posted story to narrated story
Three steps, no microphone involved.
Bring in the story
Paste the text, import a Google Doc, or link the post where it lives.
Choose the voice that fits
Different stories want different narrators, so pick the one that matches the tone. About 1,000 characters becomes a minute.
Share it as a listen
Embed the read-along player in the post, or share the narration's page. Your story, playable anywhere.
This is the player, live
The exact read-along player you'd embed. Press play and watch the text follow the voice.
The text follows the voice
Read-along highlights your prose as it's narrated, so readers can listen, read, or both at once.
A home for your body of work
Every story gets its own page under your profile, so your collection becomes a browsable, listenable catalog with your links on it.
Readers where text can't go
Public narrations play free for anyone, no account, so your story reaches commutes, kitchens, and closed eyes.
You're in charge
Every story carries one setting — who can reach it — and you can change it whenever you like.
| Where it goes | Private | Unlisted | Public |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plays for anyone with the link | No | Yes | Yes |
| Embeds on your own site | No | Yes | Yes |
| Listed on Discover and your profile | No | No | Yes |
| Turns up in web search | No | No | Yes |
The left two columns matter if you submit to magazines. A private narration is reachable by nobody but you, and an unlisted one stays out of Discover, off your profile and out of search results — so you can make the audio now and decide about publishing later.
What it costs, in stories
Narration minutes are the only cost: a typical 2,000-word story uses about 12 of them. Listening costs your audience nothing.

Questions story writers ask
Does it do character voices?
One narrator reads the whole story: a clear, natural reading rather than a full-cast performance. Pick the voice that fits your story's tone, and let the prose do the acting. Generate a story free and hear it before deciding.
How much story does the free plan cover?
A 2,000-word story is about 12 narration minutes. The free plan's 30 monthly minutes plus the 60-minute signup bonus covers several stories in your first month.
Can I submit the story elsewhere after narrating it?
That's between you and the venue. Many magazines treat publicly posted work (text or audio) as previously published, so if you're submitting somewhere with a first-rights policy, keep the narration private until after publication. The visibility switch is yours.
Do listeners need an Allmagine account?
No. Public narrations play in full for anyone, in the embedded player on your site or on the narration's own page. Listeners only need a free account if they want to save things for later and keep their place in sync across devices.
Who owns the audio?
You do. Your text stays yours and so do the narrations made from it. Keep them private, publish them, embed them, or delete them whenever you like.
